The sixth grade Religion class focuses on the development of the spiritual life of the student through prayer, scripture and discussion. The students enjoy performing skits pertaining to the Biblical characters they are studying. The middle school experience at Pope John Paul II is a faith based journey toward the future. We aim to prepare your child for success by offering a well rounded Christ centered curriculum. The sixth grade Math curriculum challenges the student with basic computation skills, an introduction to Pre-Algebra concepts, as well as working with Geometry formulas. The class works with partners on many of their hand-on activities.

One of the strategies frequently implemented throughout our brain based curriculum is reciprocal teaching. Through this strategy the class learns a concept and then will teach it to the others. If they can teach it then we know that they have fully grasped the idea. This also gives the students a confidence and a lift to their self-esteem. “I really know it, I taught it”.
The Pre-Algebra class definitely challenges the students and gets them ready for our Algebra 1 class. Active participation and working in small groups are some of the brain based strategies utilized often in our classes. The Algebra curriculum meets the high school standards and benchmarks and ultimately prepares the students for great success in their high school Math classes.
