Focus 11 - an opportunity to learn about vocations
Since February 2000, the Office of Vocations, in conjunction with the Clergy and Religious Promotion Commission has been sponsoring the Focus 11 Vocations Rally. This initiative is a part of a nationwide project for the promotion of awareness of Church Vocations to the priesthood and consecrated religious. The program is called Focus 11, precisely because it is developed for students who are 11 years old (usually in grade 6), and students who are in the 11th grade. Research has shown that these two thresholds are the times when most young people make important educational and life choice decisions that set other choices into motion.
Bishop Lynch has endorsed the participation of children in our Catholic Schools, Youth Ministry and Religious Education Programs in whatever efforts can be developed to offer Church Vocations information. The day includes prayer, music, witness presentations (including one delivered by Bishop Lynch on each of the three days of the event), panel discussions, skits and scavenger hunts for the 6th graders; as well as the opportunity for the students to visit booths set up by the diocese, religious congregations, and seminaries from all parts of the country.
Please pray for the continued success of this event that the participants come away informed, and open to exploring the possibility of service to the Church as a priest, religious sister or religious brother. For information, please contact the Office of Vocations of the Diocese of St. Petersburg.
