The goal of physical education at PJPII is reflected clearly in our mission statement to ‘…empower students to reach their highest spiritual, intellectual, social, and physical potential.’ In support of this goal, all students at PJPII receive physical education instruction twice a week in addition to their daily recess. EC3 – EC4: The benefits of vigorous play for children at this age are too many to number! Children are able to develop fundamental physical and social skills through a framework of games and activities. Curriculum includes play gymnastics, rhythm and dance, game skills, and literacy in movement and body concepts. K – 2: Play is extended as children further develop their manipulative skills and familiarity with a variety of game structures. Children at this age also begin to explore concepts of competition and cooperation, and are encouraged to handle the accompanying emotions in a skillful and Christ-like way. 3 – 5: Classroom learning is reinforced to help children acquire necessary, basic literacies – multiplication in particular. They also cultivate their analytical and critical thinking skills by trying to identify key elements and game structures that will enable them to create winning strategies. 6 – 8: As the capstone of their elementary education, students are challenged to broaden their horizons, and to explore the social and spiritual impact of health and fitness while striving for personal excellence. Their physical education also focuses on establishing healthy habits (and avoiding dangerous ones) that will carry them through high school and beyond. Thank you for choosing our school to minister to your child(ren)’s educational needs and formation.
